Dr. Ken O’Flaherty (1926 - )

Dr.O'FlahertyDr O’Flaherty is from Ballyconneely, Co Galway and qualified in UCD in 1952. He moved from Dublin to Moville in 1955 and spent 35 years in Practice, retiring in 1990. Subsequently he became President of the Irish College of General Practitioners in 1996. He married Eileen Brennan (RIP) from Castlemartyr, Co. Cork, a “Mater nurse”.

Two of his sons Gerard and Kenneth followed him into General Practice, working in Northern Ireland. A highly respected doctor, stories are plentiful about his long hours spent and his dedication to his patients. Dr O’Flaherty wrote “From Slyne Head to Malin Head”, an account of his life and his experiences in Inishowen, dedicated to his wife Eileen.

Dr. Geoffrey Bourke was appointed in his place in 1990.
